They feed reliable regardless of the condition, and it takes a lot of abuse to knock a PMag out. PMags are heavy hitters and are designed inside and out to reliably feed thousands and thousands of rounds. The constant curve internal geometry ensures the ammo travels smoothly throughout the magazine.
Are Gen 2 PMAGs reliable?
The Gen 2 PMAG followers are still fantastic and ultra-reliable. The biggest difference between the followers won’t be noticed until your magazines are filthy dirty and caked with dirt, mud, carbon and whatever else the world throws at you.
What magazine does military use?
The black and medium coyote tan are now the only magazines authorized by the USMC for combat and training. The government-designed EPM USGI (aluminum) magazine will be used only for training purposes. The PMAG GEN 3 would be ideal for the M4, M16, M27IAR (Infantry Automatic Rifle) and M249 SAW (Squad Automatic Weapon).
What’s the difference between gen2 and Gen 3 Pmag?
The Gen 3 PMAGs are made of a stronger polymer (see below) that holds up better to wear and impact. They have a different follower that is grey in color compared to the brown follower on the Gen 2. Both generations of magazines are very reliable and last for thousands of rounds.

What is the difference between gen2 and gen3 magpul PMAGs?
Baseplate. The Gen 2 baseplate is a good bit wider than the Gen 3 P-MAGs. This slimmer baseplate of the Gen 3 magazines make it easier to fit mags in a double magazine pouch. The wider Gen 2 baseplate makes the magazine easier to grab in my opinion, especially from a belt mag pouch.
